“Playboy” Buddy Rose - 1952-2009
Paul Perschmann, better known to wrestling fans as “Playboy” Buddy Rose, was found dead today by his wife in his home. The cause of death is currently unknown but is believed to be related to blood sugar and diabetes complications.
Rose made his professional debut as a wrestler in the 1970s and made a name for himself in Pacific Northwest Wrestling in now-historic feuds with Roddy Pipper and Jimmy Snuka. Rose made his way to the WWF and even headlined shows at Madison Square Garden for the WWF World Heavyweight title against champion Bob Backlund.
He may be best known for wrestling in the first ever Wrestlemania match, under a mask, as “Executioner,” losing to Tito Santana. Rose wrestled his last match in 2005 but did not leave the business for good, opening a wrestling school in Portland.
